Woods Oviatt invited Stephanie Armstrong to lead a session on personal positioning for the professionals in their firm. The Iconic Stance ran as a working session, and every attendee left having drafted their own Iconic Stance Statement, a clear articulation of professional identity that holds up in a room, in a bio, and in a referral conversation.
The session opened with the stakes. People form a first impression in roughly a hundred milliseconds, most impressions now form online before anyone meets in person, and a LinkedIn profile gets about seventeen seconds before someone decides what to make of you. From there it worked through the two ways accomplished professionals get overlooked, signal dilution and the sameness trap, and into the buyer psychology behind how people actually decide.
The middle of the session was hands-on. Six workbook activities moved attendees through a competitive and aspirational scan, buyer tension mapping, core differentiators, authority anchors, and strategic exclusion, then into a guided draft. All of it ran on the ICONS framework: identify your position, call out the tension, own the outcome, name your proof, send it forward. The session closed on a single instruction. Stand somewhere, and let the right people find you there.
